Welcome to this weeks Top Ten Tuesday! TTT is a bookish meme hosted by the lovely Broke and the Bookish. If you haven’t yet, be sure to check out her blog! Each week bloggers are given a topic and then list their top ten on that topic.
This week’s TTT is all about time periods and settings for books. Historical or futuristic? What kind of society? Hang on to your Fez, kids, this is bound to get a bit wibbly wobbly and timey whimy. 😉
1. Future- Broken Cities
I love broken cities; especially for zombie, robot, alien apocalypse books. There’s just something about a dead city slowly being reclaimed by nature and the characters sifting through what’s left.
2. Timey-Wimy – Steampunk!
I’m not a big fan of the Victorian era, but add a few dirigibles, automations, and a guy in a top hat with an umbrella and goggles and you had me at hello! I’ve also probably listened to way too much Steam Powered Giraffe for my own good.
In space as stations or on distant planets, colonies allow a lot of mingling with different species and have unlimited possibilities for characters!
4. Historical- Ancient Japan
I love classical Japanese books: A Book of Five Rings, Taiko, Musashi… My favorite period is the Tokugawa/Edo and Meiji periods, just during the time Japan was gaining western influence. I also love reading their lore and they have the BEST ghost stories.
