Welcome to another week of Top Ten Tuesday, a bookish meme hosted by Broke and the Bookish! Each week bloggers are given a topic and are encouraged to list their very own top ten on that topic.
This weeks topic is Characters Who Would Make Great Leaders (of anything; revolution, fight club, bakeoff).
As always, leave your own characters in or just links to your TTT in the comments!
Enjolras – Les Miserables by Victor Hugo
Technically Enjolras was a leader. He lead the revolution to overthrow the French king in the book, but his part was so small while his presence is huge. I want a book that gets inside HIS head; why he decided to revolt and how he drew the others to his side.
Samwise Gamgee – The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
Sam is known for being the faithful follower, NOT a leader, but really think about it. By the end of the last book he was holding his head high and standing toe to toe with warriors. Even Tolkien stated that Sam was the ‘true’ hero of the book. So maybe he won’t be leading his own army to the gates of Mordor anytime soon, but a Hobbit training camp doesn’t sound so bad.
Gale Hawthorne & Cinna – The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
If you’ve been on my blog before you know I’ve read all the books, but I completely dislike them. I only read them for my niece and her friends, but the series did have a few good characters. Gale only seemed to be put in place as a third wheel or a complication in the love arch, but he was a great character that needed time to shine! Cinna is THE best character. I’d read a book about him starting a revolution in the Capitol anytime.
Damian Wayne – Teen Titans by Benjamin Percy
With comic geeks and this subject, it’s all about which Robin. Dick Grayson? Jason Todd? Tim Drake? Stephanie Brown? Damian Wayne? Dick became too much like Batman; a loner that fits perfectly with his Nightwing persona. Jason was always known for his combat skills, and Tim was known for his detective skills. Stephanie was a disappointment all around. But then we have Damian. He was RAISED to become a leader. He was next in line to become the leader of the League of Assassins and trained as such. Sure, because of that he has people problems and may be a bit arrogant, but he’s working on it.
