The storyline to this was so interesting I really wanted to love it, but it fell way short of my expectations in execution and art. The reader meets a young version of Batman and Superman who are thrown into a parallel dimension, Earth 2, by Kaiyo the Chaos Bringer. There they meet their older selves who are wiser and a bit more friendly with each other, then the four are set up to fight Darkseid.
It really sounded epic, but was executed in a way that made the story come out muddy. Superman in drawn horribly with a too-thick neck and most of the characters had piggish noses. I have no idea what happened there. Some scenes were just startling awesome, and others horrific.
Overall, I think I’ll give this one more chance and try out volume 2 just for the love of the Batman and the premise. Hopefully it’ll get better in the next one.
